The Blue Egg Gene Chicken DNA Test is an in-house DNA test for determining the presence of the oocyan allele (O) in chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus). No need to ship samples to a lab, obtain results in hours!
Sample collection is easy: DNA is extracted from blood (e.g., ex-ovo blood draw) and feathers. Result interpretation is clear: one lower band indicates the presence of two copies of the Blue Egg Gene (O/O), two bands indicate the presence of only one copy of the Blue Egg Gene (O/o), while the presence of only the upper band indicates the absence of the Blue Egg gene (o/o). Therefore, this test can determine whether a chicken is heterozygous or homozygous for the oocyan allele.

One kit of the Blue Egg Gene Chicken DNA Test provides enough material for 38 tests (32 samples + 6 controls). The kit includes reagents and PCR tubes. Equipment is sold separately.
The kit has been validated only using Gallus gallus domesticus samples on miniPCR® equipment.
